State Attorney Willie Meggs has cleared Quincy officials of wrongdoing after a commissioner alleged violations of the state sunshine Law. But at least one top Quincy leader is not satisfied.
In a letter to Quincy Mayor Derrick Elias, Meggs’ office says it found no evidence documents had been destroyed relating to an employee who was denied a permanent city job. City Commissioner Keith Dowdell requested the state investigate. But Elias says the issues are personal.
“It’s not the first time he’s done something like this," Elias said, referring to Commissioner Dowdell. " Even as we speak right now, we’re dealing with some things…we were just in here yesterday with some allegations. He’s suing the commission. The very commission he sits on.”
There has been turnover in key positions at the City of Quincy, notably the city’s new manager, Mike Wade who replaced Jack McClean. A group calling itself Citizens for a Better Quincy had pressed for Wade to be fired, and has said it doesn’t like his leadership.
