Volunteer teams are ready to "get packing."

Leon County elementary kids who rely on free school meals will at least have some alternate food for the summer. This year's Full Summer snack pack-a-thon took place Saturday, June 6 at Godby High School.

Dozens of community groups pitched in. Like the Tally Town Collectors Club, where JoAnn McAdams is a member.

"This is so much fun! It's for a good cause and we've done it every year for 14 years."

Claudette McCann is with Leon County's Retired Teachers and Principals.

"We care about the children of this community and we know if they're fed, they'll learn, they'll enjoy life and just have a great summer."

Along with packing thousands of snack bags, the event also raised lots of money for Second Harvest of the Big Bend and the School District's food outreach, as organizer Laurye Messer announced:

"And we have raised a whopping $49,133.16!"

That elicited cheers and applause from the Full Summer volunteers, who immediately began packing the thousands of snack bags that will be distributed to families all over Tallahassee.
