The City of Monticello is this month’s “Florida Main Street Community.”
Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced the designation earlier this month. Anne Holt heads a group aimed at preserving Monticello’s historic buildings, and generating new business.
She says the announcement showcases the effort of Main Street Monticello and, "it tells the people of the county and the city of Monticello how hard we work!”
Main Street Monticello Florida is a committee whose goal is to revitalize the historic area. It has completed over 255 rehabilitation projects and brought 72 businesses into the historic downtown.
The city is on the National Register Historic Places with more than 42 buildings created in the 19th century.
