With the redevelopment of Tallahassee Mall near, the state of its businesses is in flux - some will close while others remain as redevelopment commences.
Blackwater Resources, an Alabama-based real estate company, purchased the land for the Tallahassee Mall last week, as first reported by the Tallahassee Democrat. The company plans to demolish select parts of the mall and redevelop them as multi-use buildings.
As a result, some of the mall’s businesses, including Sports Authority, Be The Solution and Family Tree, have closed up shop. Some of the shopping center’s staples, like AMC Theaters and Barnes & Noble, will remain open throughout construction.
Few details are available on the mall’s new store and restaurant offerings, but rumors persist of a Cheesecake Factory coming to the shopping center. Murphy O'Brien, the company's PR firm, could neither confirm nor deny that the restaurant would be coming to the mall but issued the following statement:
“The restaurant development team is always on the look-out for A-1 sites to further grow our Cheesecake Factory brand presence, and all sites that fit our criteria for success will be seriously considered."
Redevelopment of the Tallahassee Mall could begin as early as this summer.
