Leon County and Tallahassee planners are proposing a makeover for the old Amtrak station and surrounding areas on Railroad Avenue south of Gaines Street. The County Commission will discuss the plans at their Tuesday afternoon meeting.
The former Amtrak freight complex is home to several county services, the All Saints Cinema and, most recently, the Domi Station business incubator. After the county recently invested $250,000 in Domi, the new proposal would require the Community Redevelopment Agency to spend over $500,000 more to renovate and rebrand the entire complex as “Inspiration Station.”
About half of that would go toward updates to the station building façade, with more parking, an updated roundabout and landscaping also planned for the property.
The proposal coincides with planned redevelopment by the city of Tallahassee. It’s creating a "bike boulevard" just north of the property and raised medians to the east on Railroad Avenue.
