OneBlood, Inc. formed when three not-for-profit Florida blood donation groups merged. This week they’ll offer incentives to donate blood. Giving a pint at one of the group’s “bloodmobiles” nets the donor a Wal-Mart gift card. On July 5, the bloodmobile will be at Wal-Mart at 322 N. Monroe St. from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and at McDonald’s at 3631 Mahan Drive from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. OneBlood spokeswoman Betty Roberts said the need for donors increases during the holiday.
“Unfortunately, during the holidays, we do receive more accidents. There are some unplanned-for surgeries. There are a lot of people who are involved in cancer and leukemia treatments that need blood regularly,” said Roberts.
