Florida State University Fraternity Suspended After Alleged Sexual Assault

The Zeta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Florida State University has been suspended.

The Fraternity's Executive Director David Beacham says the decision to suspend the fraternity follows, "confirmation of violations of the Fraternity's law, policies and principles as well as violations of the policies of Florida State University. The violations were related to a recent unauthorized social activity and included the misuse of alcohol."

Beacham made those comments in a statement issued September 12th.

The violations of the fraternity's rules happened at the same party that prompted a sexual assault investigation after an 18-year-old Florida State University Student said she believes she was sexually assaulted at the fraternity's house on College Avenue.

The university's law enforcement agency is investigating the claims and says its still waiting on physical evidence.

The victim says the incident happened during a party held in late August. She says she attended the party with friends and doesn't remember parts of the night. She woke up the next day at the fraternity house and felt she had been assaulted. A university housing member later found her crying in a hallway and called police.

FSU law enforcement says they are investigating the case as a 'drug-assisted sexual battery', more commonly known as "date rape."

Investigators do have several people they would like to question and they say the victim is credible.
