City of Tallahassee Gives Occupy Tallahassee Notice To Depart

The City of Tallahassee is giving the group Occupy Tallahassee less than a week to vacate their camp located on Gaines Street. But, the campers say they still have important work to do and they do not want to disband.

A group of about 10 Occupy Tallahassee members are camped out on Gaines Street between Duval and Bronough. It’s located near the State Capitol building and Tallahassee’s City Hall, which spokesman for Occupy Tallahassee Larry Hendricks says is an ideal location for political activists. Hendricks says while he does not know what sort of action they’ll take, he says he’s frustrated by the city’s notice to leave.

“We have an agreement, a contract with the city. I don’t know if provisions are made for giving us that protections or not," remarked Hendricks. "I do know that this latest thing with the city has been most disingenuous. It has not been in keeping with the relationship we’ve had with them so far, which I thought, had been cordial and this was not cordial.”

Hendricks says he may be looking to get some legal help to fight the notice. Occupy Tallahassee has until September 1s to vacate the area. In its notice, the city says it’s time to “restore this valuable piece of property to its previous state.”
