FSU student plans to run 1200 miles to raise money for Nicaragua

Seventeen year- old Sam Cook is running to raise money for Killearn United Methodist Church’s yearly mission trip to Central America. Ryan Benk reports the Florida State University Freshman plans to run 1,250 miles, the distance between Leon County and Leon, Nicaragua.

It will not be Sam Cook’s first trip to the Central American Republic. But, it is the first time he runs to raise money for the effort. The 1,200 dollars he wants to raise will help buy supplies like food, clothing, and medicine for the country. Cook says after his first trip, he knew he had to do something.
“I just felt that if I came and didn’t change my ways a little bit, or you know try to go back and raise awareness for the people that far less fortunate than we are, then nothing would’ve come of that. I just felt that I had to do something.”

Cook hopes to reach his goal by mid-July, before the trip begins. In order to meet his goal he must run at least six, to seven miles each day. He has run more than 360 miles thus far.
