Florida lawmakers want to earmark recovery funds in the state's budget this week, as a local event hopes to also raise some money.

"I think almost everybody that was doing research and using that facility will be impacted one way or another," said Dean Tom Frazer.

This is the 6th year for the Collaborative Collision competition, in which the school's various departments are invited to form teams and compete for up to $100,000 in project funding.

The 4-day festival will involve some 350 people from many disciplines.

All aspects of North Florida's public, private and non-profit sectors are being recruited to be part of an effort that organizers say will bring substantal benefits to everyone.

Groundbreaking was held August 2 for the 3-story facility on the edge of Innovation Park.
