Leon County Commissioner Rick Minor has launched a petition drive related to a federal grant that could fund safety upgrades to the heavily traveled road in his district.

The city's northwest quadrant has seen a recent rise in gun violence, human trafficking, serious traffic accidents and panhandling.

The group will tackle such issues as crime, homelessness, and infrastructure needs along Monroe Street between Tharpe Street and Fred George Road.
