Amanda Marie Green won the Democratic primary for Florida's 2nd Congressional District

Amanda Green is set to represent Democrats in the race for Florida’s Second Congressional District. She beat out three other candidates to earn the party’s nod and will go up against Republican Austin Rogers in November.

On her campaign website, Green highlights that she worked for a subsidiary of US AID, formerly the world's largest foreign aid agency, until it was slashed when President Donald Trump took office again.

Along the campaign trail, Green has highlighted economic anxiety people in North Florida feel when faced with the high costs of gas, groceries, housing and insurance. Speaking to WFSU Tuesday night, she said she wants to keep an open line of communication with the people she would represent if elected.

“Having open and honest conversations is the way that we get through this and figure out the next chapter for the next generation…People have shown me what there is to work on [and] what there is to fix.”

Green topped the four-person Democratic Primary against competitors like Yen Bailey (who also ran for the seat in 2024 and lost to Congressman Neal Dunn), Nicholas Zateslo, and Brice Barnes.

The seat came open earlier this year when Dunn announced he would be stepping down, leading Green to see an opening to step up.

“We need to see more people stepping up and serving their Districts. I think it’s important that you have your congresspersons phone number, I’ve given out my phone number to about 25,000 people,” she said.

Green, who received endorsements from the AFL-CIO and Leon Sheriff Walt McNeil, among others, will face Republican Austin Rogers in the general election. Rogers is the former general counsel to Florida U.S. Senator and former Governor Rick Scott.

Rogers emerged victorious Tuesday night from in a crowded, eight-person GOP primary for the seat.
