Florida A&M University is mourning the passing of the first woman to serve as the university's interim president. Dr. Castell Vaughn Bryant died on Saturday, May 2 at the age of 87.
The school's board of trustees named her to the position of interim president in January, 2005 following the firing of Fred Gainous. She held the post until May of 2007 when she resigned. James Ammons took over as permanent president in August of that year.
Funeral arrangements for Bryant are pending.
