Florida Senate President Ben Albritton is in the hospital.
A memo to the chamber says Albritton was admitted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Sunday morning with chest pain that was soon diagnosed as a small blood clot in his lung.
He is receiving treatment and is expected to be back in the office later this week. In the meantime, all previously scheduled Senate business is proceeding as planned.
Here is the email that was sent to senators:
Senators,
President Albritton wanted to share the following update.
Early Sunday morning, President Albritton began experiencing chest pain. Physicians in the Emergency Room at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital discovered a small blood clot in his lung. The President remained in the Emergency Room overnight and is currently under observation, awaiting further testing.
The President is in good spirits and has been in frequent communication with staff via phone and email yesterday and today. All previously scheduled Senate business will proceed as planned this week.
The President and Mrs. Albritton are grateful to the physicians and staff at Tallahassee Memorial for the excellent care the President is receiving. He looks forward to returning to the office later this week. The President and Mrs. Albritton would be very grateful for your prayers.
