Hudson Republican Representative Kevin Steele has announced he is officially running for Florida CFO.
Steele grabbed headlines last month for filing a bill to rename streets on college campuses after deceased conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. He also had his name in the rumor mill for this race as an option to run against DeSantis-backed candidate and current CFO Blaise Ingoglia.
In an interview before he filed, he told WFSU he understands many of the financial issues Florida residents face.
“I do want to have an impact on the state of Florida. I think there's a lot of things that we can do together to solve problems. Property taxes is one of them. Home insurance is a big one, and I have a clear solution for that,” he said.
U.S. Senator and former Governor Rick Scott has already endorsed him. His website also sports an endorsement from current Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson.

I’m proud to endorse Kevin because he’ll bring that same focus to the CFO’s office.https://t.co/26oi3WPX6L
But President Donald Trump has not weighed in. So far, CFO is the only statewide race the president has not yet endorsed a candidate for 2026.
