Marital privilege means spouses don’t have to testify against each other. But Sen. Gayle Harrell (R-Stuart) thinks there should be exceptions -especially when it comes to kids. She has a bill to do that.
"It[The bill] provides that the marital privilege does not apply to a communication concerning the commission or attempted commission of a sexual abuse or physical abuse or neglect of a minor child in a civil or criminal proceedings," says Harrell
Some of the exceptions would apply to child abuse, sexual abuse and human trafficking. The bill passed its second of three committees Tuesday. An identical bill in the House hasn’t had its first hearing.
