Clemency Hearing Postponed
A scheduled Wednesday meeting of Florida’s clemency board has been called off because of the death of former President George H.W. Bush and a memorial service in Washington, D.C.
Governor Rick Scott and state Cabinet members sit on the board. It’s the last clemency meeting before Amendment 4 goes into effect. When asked what the scheduling change means for Floridians hoping to have their rights restored Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam says, “I don’t know the answer to it I assume that it’s postponed.”
Amendment four will automatically allow nonviolent felons to register to vote. The Rule goes into place January 8. The governor’s office has not indicated whether the meeting will be rescheduled.
