The latest attacks in Florida’s gubernatorial race come from online. Florida Republicans and the democratic nominee have both launched attack websites.
The Florida Republican Party wants democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum to “Release the Receipts” for a 2016 trip to Costa Rica.
Gillum has faced criticism over the trip, which he took with lobbyists and investors in Tallahassee’s Edison restaurant. The Edison is part of an ongoing FBI probe.
Gillum released some records earlier this month which he says show he paid for his portion of the trip.
But the Florida GOP is not satisfied, questioning a $15 thousand deposit Gillum received. He argues the deposit was simply a transfer from one bank account to another.
Meanwhile, the Gillum campaign launched a website of its own: FloridaFactCheck.org. The front page reads “Hostile on Healthcare. Trump-pawn. Special Interest Politics. That’s Ron DeSantis' Record.”
It criticizes DeSantis’ votes to cut funding for Pell Grants, renewable energy, and to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
The race has been highly contentious. Democrats have a serious chance at winning the governorship for the first time in recent years. Most polls show Gillum leading.
