With St. Patrick's Day On Sat., AAA Urges Caution With More Drivers Expected

MGN Online

St. Patrick’s Day falls on Saturday this year, and AAA officials say they’re expecting to see much more drivers on the roadways. They’re offering Floridians a safe ride home to avoid fatal crashes.

Between 2012 and 2016, close to 270 people lost their lives in drunk driving-related crashes on St. Patrick’s Day. That's according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. AAA spokesman Matt Nasworthy says his agency wants people to have a plan.

“It’s not just your life you’re protecting,” he said. “It’s everybody else on the roadway that would be left in your path. So, we want people just to plan ahead. Make sure they have a designated driver. Make sure they have a plan to get home safe at the end of the night, and for those that don’t, that find themselves in that situation where they don’t have a sober way home, Tow To Go is there as a safety net.”

To take advantage of AAA’s free Tow-to-Go service, call 855-2-TOW-2-GO or 855-286-9246. It runs from Friday to Sunday at 6 a.m.
