Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum appears to be taking a minor setback in his race for the Governor’s Mansion in stride.
Gillum would be Florida’s first African-American chief executive if he wins, but Civil Rights icon and Georgia Congressman John Lewis is endorsing Gillum’s chief rival for the Democratic nomination, former Congresswoman Gwen Graham.
Gillum says no harm no foul.
“The journey that Congressman Lewis took to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge for equality created a pathway for me to be able to run one day for mayor, and when we win the governorship, we’ll be able to trace that back to that service of over 50 years ago.”
Graham, the daughter of former governor and U.S. Senator Bob Graham, would be Florida’s first woman governor.
