Legislation by Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Florida, is moving from the Senate to the U.S.House. It requires backup jets to be available to gather hurricane atmospheric information.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has aircraft called Hurricane Hunters. A jet measuring the intensity of Hurricane Hermine was grounded for several days last year undergoing emergency repairs. Nelson said he hopes to have a backup jet in place for this hurricane season to protect lives and property.
