House Speaker Crisafulli Says Goodbye

House speaker Steve Crisafulli
Florida House of Representatives

It was Florida House Speaker Steve Crisafulli’s turn to say goodbye to fellow lawmakers. He’s termed out this year, and like Senate President Andy Gardiner, won’t be returning to the legislature next year. Crisafulli thanked his members for standing by their principals, and in his closing remarks, offered some advice:

“Check your ego at the door when you come in to this chamber, or the one across the hall. And remember how you got here, where you come from, and the title that you carry is just that.”

Crisafulli says he’s pleased with the way the House dealt with adversity, specifically mentioning the marathon  of special sessions lawmakers had to participate in after last year’s legislative meltdown over healthcare, and pivotal redistricting rulings.

He's heading back to Central Florida and says he plans to think about his next moves.
