Enterprise Florida Using Radio To Lure Connecticut Businesses South

Florida officials took to Connecticut's airwaves this weekend to encourage businesses to come south.

Florida Governor Rick Scott is crisscrossing the state to brag about new tax cuts approved by the Legislature.  But Enterprise Florida is making the same case a bit further north as well.

Governor Scott has made a habit of visiting business leaders in other—largely blue—states in hopes of luring them to Florida.  As part of that effort the state’s business development arm Enterprise Florida unveiled a new radio spot in Connecticut over the weekend.

“Connecticut recently increased taxes—again,” the announcer reads, “this time by over one billion dollars.  Florida has no state income tax and has cut taxes more that forty times over the last four years.”

And Scott’s pitch may be coming at the right time.  General Electric has its headquarters in Connecticut and CEO Jeff Immelt recently notified staff members he would begin exploring options for moving the company out of state.  The Connecticut legislature maintained a temporary corporate tax hike in its most recent budget, keeping the rate at nine percent.

He listens to far too many podcasts and is a die-hard 49ers football fan. When Nick’s not at work he likes to cook, play music and read.
