Monday Is Last Day To Register To Vote Ahead Of Nov. Election

MGN Online

Monday is the last day to register to vote in Florida ahead of the November general election.

If you want to vote November 4th and help decide some key local, state, and congressional races, Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland says interested Floridians must be registered by Monday.

“It’s important because there are different registration deadlines in many states, and people come from all over the country. Some are used to either registering on Election Day or shorter periods of time, but Florida does have a 29-day prior to the election deadline. It’s Monday, Oct. 6. It will be at the end of office hours at any election’s office,” said Holland, who also heads the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections.

Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho says his staff will be holding several voter registration drives that day. He says at locations, like New Leaf Market and the Downtown Library, they’ll be encouraging residents to register and give other registered voters some tips.

“If an individual is registered, for example, in another county in the state of Florida, Miami-Dade or Volusia, they don’t need to re-register because voter registration in the state of Florida is one jurisdiction,” said Sancho. “So, if you moved from Tampa and you’re registered down there, to Tallahassee, all you need to do is an address change and we can do those at our drives as well.”

All of the counties have now sent out absentee ballots. So, Holland and Sancho say if you requested one, be on the lookout in the mail. People interested in voting absentee can still request their ballot all the way up to the Thursday before the election. Early voting begins October 20th.
