Small business owner and founder of the Northwest Florida Tea Party, Mike Hill, has officially clinched the Republican nomination for Florida’s second house district, Representative Clay Ford held the seat until he died of cancer just after the start of the legislative session. Officials certified the election results Thursday.
Tea Party candidate Mike Hill bested his five opponents, garnering close to 50 percent of the vote for the Republican nomination for Florida’s Second House District. Florida Secretary of State, Ken Detzner, presided over the Elections Canvasing committee as it certified the votes Thursday.
“The Department of State has received, and I have before me, the official return for that election, the official returns reflect that Mike Hill received the most votes in the Republican Special Primary Election,” Detzner declared.
Hill will face off agaisnt Democrat Jeremy Lau, who ran unopposed in his primary, in the general election on June 11th. If Hill defeats Lau, he’ll become the only African-American Republican serving in the state legislature.
