Scott poses with the USS Glover

Tallahassee, FL – A group of Navy veterans presented Governor Rick Scott Thursday with a
four and half foot model of the USS Glover. That is the ship Scott served on
in the 1970s. James Call reports.

The Glover was a research vessel that tested antisubmarine weapon systems. It patrolled along the Atlantic Coast when Scott was assigned to it in the early 1970s. Daniel Bean, president of The Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association, said the group commissioned the model to be built to acknowledge Scott's service and publicize its efforts to build a museum in downtown Jacksonville.

"It's exciting for us to have a governor and Lieutenant governor who are former navy. But it's also, really it's an opportunity for us to promote our project as well as well as honor the governor's service."

Bean heads a nonprofit organization raising money to transform a former destroyer into a museum. The group is trying to complete the project with private funds.
