Federal unemployment compensation ended in Florida in late June. Those checks were on top of state unemployment checks. The theory was that less money in accounts would spur workers back into the labor market. That hasn’t happened.

Holocaust Education Week
The Holocaust Education Resource Council and Tallahassee Community College are joining forces for this year's Holocaust Education Week observance. The event, Nov. 8-12, will include speakers, performances and the annual Remembrance Dinner, with remarks from a Holocaust survivor. To provide a preview of the occasion are: Barbara Goldstein, executive director of the Holocaust Education Resource Council; Tallahassee Community College Vice President Heather Mitchell; and TCC History Professor Monte Finkelstein.

On tonight’s program: As Republican leaders say they expect Florida lawmakers to look into implementing Texas-style abortion legislation next session, groups like Planned Parenthood are preparing to push back; Florida’s back and forth between state officials and local school districts over mask mandates is turning into a bonanza for litigation lawyers; As the U-S Senate prepares to challenge states like Florida that have tightened voting laws, voting rights advocates rally in support of that federal intervention; Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried says the new trade agreement between the U.S. and Mexico is allowing what she calls “unfair trade practices,” which hurts the state’s farmers; And one of the Florida Capital Press Corps’ living legends is finally packing it in after more than four decades of covering state government.

Community Partnership Schools
Three years ago, Leon County's Sabal Palm Elementary School became the area's first Community Partnership School. Under that designation, long-term partners provide a multitude of ancillary services so that a school's teachers and administrators can focus their efforts on education. To talk about how that concept has been working at Sabal Palm are: School Principal Anicia Robinson; Director of Community Partnerships Anna-Kay Hutchison; Dr. Daniel Van Durme, chief medical officer of the Florida State University College of Medicine; FAMU College of Education Dean Dr. Allyson Watson; and Gil Ziffer, now a board member with the Children's Home Society.

He speaks about the film and is joined by Frenchtown Activist Miaisha Mitchell and Alzheimer’s Project Executive Director John Trombetta.
