Sam McCoy & Chris Rivera: Piecemeal Landscape- Opening Reception
Venvi Art Gallery is excited to announce "Piecemeal Landscape", a two-artist exhibition of works by artists Sam McCoy and Chris Rivera. This exhibition will be on display from June 5th to August 15th, with its opening reception on June 5th from 5-8pm.
"Piecemeal Landscape" showcases contemporary landscapes formed through observation, memory, and human intervention. Drawn from Southern environments influenced by tourism, urban development and also natural spaces, shifting perspectives of the landscapes are also present within these pieces. Both of McCoy and Rivera’s works consider personal relationships to landscape as something both intimate and constructed. "Piecemeal Landscape" shows cycles of enchantment and disenchantment incorporated within the works, revealing how ideas of landscape are curated and consumed. Unstable perspectives in Rivera’s and McCoy’s works navigate their own surroundings with extra awareness into how perception, time, and cultural framing shape what we see.
Sam McCoy and Chris Rivera both are currently professors at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. Both Sam McCoy and Chris Rivera earned their BFA’s at University of Central Florida and their MFA’s at Florida State University. Both artists create pieces that focus on the interactions between natural and constructed landscapes. Sam's inspiration comes from the roadside attractions and tourist spectacles that populate Florida. Her work pulls back the metaphorical curtain on Florida's carefully crafted image compared to her own personal experiences. Chris Rivera showcases the interactions between landscapes and urban environments through his modular pieces that inspire from principles of perspective, observation, and time. His work is essentially a dialogue between the past and present alongside the natural and constructed. His work provides a new perspective on how we as humans interact with our environments.
"Piecemeal Landscape" will be on display from June 5th to August 15th. Its opening will be on June 5th from 5-8pm. Venvi Art Gallery is located at 2901 E Park Ave Unit 2800 Tallahassee, FL 32301. To learn more about this exhibition and both Sam McCoy and Chris Rivera’s work, please visit www.venviartgallery.com.
