The Carrabelle History Museum is excited to announce the extension of its nostalgic exhibit, “Vintage Office – Relics from City Hall’s Past,” now on display through Sunday, June 29. The exhibit offers visitors a glimpse into the workings of Carrabelle’s city government in decades past. Step into the office of yesteryear and explore a collection of authentic artifacts used by city officials to keep the town running smoothly. The Carrabelle History Museum is open Wednesday from 12 to 5 pm ET, Thursday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm ET, and Sunday from 12 to 5 pm ET. Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted.

Among the artifacts highlighted are historic city log books, a municipal court log from the 1940s—complete with charges like fighting and disorderly conduct, original City of Carrabelle ballot boxes and paper ballots once used in local elections, a classic 1953 Underwood Standard Typewriter used by Assistant City Clerk Mary Mathes, a vintage mechanical adding machine, and the black ledger from longtime City Clerk Charles Lee Daniels, who faithfully served Carrabelle for 34 years. These intriguing pieces tell the story of the city’s administrative past and provide a tangible connection to Carrabelle’s civic heritage.

Need a way to beat the summer heat while supporting a good cause? Apalachicola Riverkeeper is hosting their annual Ice-Cream Social Sunday, June 1st from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Maclay Gardens State Park Gardener’s Cottage. Created by volunteers in 2013, this warm weather tradition includes live music and dancing from the Hot Pepper Steppers and Runaway Biscuits and a flavorful assortment of ice cream and toppings provided by board members and volunteers of Apalachicola Riverkeeper. There is also a raffle for a Trek Dual Sport bicycle! A $10 donation is suggested at the door.

One purpose of the Social is to introduce the 2025 Apalachicola RiverTrek team. This year’s awareness-raising kayak trip on the entire Apalachicola River will be from October 29 thru November 2nd and several local residents are participating. At the Social, Riverkeeper Cameron Baxley will also provide a brief update about the state of the river and bay to attendees. Apalachicola Riverkeeper recently won a hard fought administrative hearing against proposed oil drilling in the basin, but there is more to be done.

“Visiting with Tallahassee area supporters in this beautiful state park while sharing ice cream and entertainment is a splendid way to spend an afternoon,” says Baxley. “If you love the Apalachicola River and Bay and all that it represents, please come on out!”
Entrance to the park is free for everyone coming to the ice-cream social.

Mission San Luis hosts the annual Free Day in celebration of Florida Archaeology Month.

Activities offered throughout the day include family-friendly crafts, living history demonstrations, and a display by the Bureau of Archaeological Research. Blow's Buss Down will be on-site with food and beverages available for purchase.

This is a free event and open to the public.

Everglades National Park opened in 1947 after years of hard work to preserve the unique Florida ecosystem. Explore how plants and water work to create the iconic river of grass and meet the people and animals that call this place home. Children will decorate an artistic landscape with colors and natural features of the Florida Everglades.

Learn how historic buildings are adapted to serve new purposes. We will explore the history of the Union Bank building, and the many different businesses that have existed in the bank building over the years. Children will pitch their own idea for a business in the Union Bank building and illustrate their design for the historic space.

Andrew Waber, Historian with the Bureau of Historic Preservation, will discuss his work updating the historic designation of the state park.
