Road Failure In Gadsden Near Florida-Georgia Line Sends Two People To Hospital

A roadway near the Florida-Georgia line in Gadsden County collapsed early Wednesday morning sending two people to Tallahassee memorial hospital with injuries.

Traffic is being re-routed around Hutchinson Ferry Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol says two accidents happened around 5 a.m. Wednesday. Two cars traveling on the road crashed at the site. One, a Chevy Silverado, went airborne and overturned due to the damaged bridge. A half-hour later, a Ford Taurus did the same, damaging the front and underside of the car.

The roadway is owned by Gadsden County and runs over three culverts. The county’s special project coordinator Jeronda Robinson says excessive rainfall caused the failure.

“Public works is working with our engineer and the state to see about replacing the actual roadway," she said.

The Florida Department of Transportation is assisting the county. Robinson says there’s no timeline yet for when repairs will begin.  Gadsden has also reached out to the Division of Emergency Management for assistance.
