Parents who struggled to pay for their kid’s school lunches got a break Tuesday, after an anonymous person donated a chunk of money toward the remaining lunch debt owed by Leon County students.

Leon County Schools Spokesperson Chris Petley said it’s the second gesture of its kind.

“Some of our school board members received information from an anonymous donor and that led to the first donation of about $1,500," explained Petley.

He says that left a small amount of students with debt, but after a call this morning it was cleared.

"We got a call this morning that said that there was someone that wanted to take care of the remainder of the debt," said Petley.

He says in the future the county is hoping to do away with school lunch debt. He says next year the county will start providing free lunch in all elementary schools.
