Marianne Arbulu is Jefferson County’s new Superintendent of Schools. The Republican school board member beat Democrat Kelvin Norton with 45 percent of the vote. Arbulu will replace incumbent Al Cooksey, who has served as superintendent for the last four years. Arbulu spoke last February about her plans to improve Jefferson County.
"Over the next four years, I will raise our district grades by two levels, and I will raise our student population by 20 percent," Arbulu said.
"Two grade level increase in our district grade, and an increase in our student population by 20 percent. I know it won’t be easy, but if you know me, when I set a target, I hit it."
The Jefferson County School district has faced serious financial issues for years.
