City Commissioners Vote To Fund Bell Tower For Veterans

Feb 12, 2020

The City of Tallahassee may be getting a bell tower dedicated to fallen veterans. City commissioners voted  Wednesday to contribute money toward the tower’s construction.

City Commissioners have agreed to put $7,500 toward the tower, which is expected to cost a total of $100,000. Tallahassee’s chapter of American Veterans has petitioned for government support in the past for national cemeteries, including Arlington as well as the Tallahassee National Cemetery, where the bell tower would be located.

“I say let’s do it. It is a beautiful facility. I’ve had the opportunity, unfortunately, to be there, at their resting place. It is a worthy cause," said Commissioner Diane Williams-Cox as she voted in favor of the funding.

If the chapter meets its fundraising goals for complete construction, the bell tower is set to be unveiled and dedicated this May.
