Ahead Of Season, Sen. Marco Rubio To Hold Hurricane Forecast Hearing

Rubio's press office
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) met with Rick Knabb, Director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami, May 9, 2016. He now wants to hold a Congressional hearing with Knabb testifying.

Hurricane Preparedness Week begins Sunday, and one Florida Senator will hold a hearing Wednesday as the hurricane season fast approaches.

As Chair of the Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio will lead the meeting called “Improvements in Hurricane Forecasting and the Path Forward.”

Rick Knabb, Director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami, is expected to testify about improvements made to better forecast hurricanes as well as predict their intensity.

Rubio says he’s also holding this hearing so Knabb can outline the importance of passing legislation he introduced last year that Rubio says will improve accurately predicting these storms.

The hearing will be held in Washington D.C. at 2 p.m. Wednesday—a week before the 2016 Hurricane season officially begins.
