The fight for 15 just got a lot stronger after a proposed amendment was sent to the Supreme Court for review. The proposal would raise the states’ minimum wage to $15 in 2026.

The political committee, Florida for A Fair Wage submitted nearly 88,000 valid petition signatures to the state Friday.

If the Supreme Court approves the proposed amendment language the committee will have to get 766,200 signatures to get it on the 2020 ballot. Orlando attorney John Morgan is leading the committee. Morgan also led the 2016 constitutional amendment legalizing medical marijuana.

The states minimum wage is currently at $8.46. The proposal would raise it to $10 an hour on Sept. 2021 and increase it by $1 each year until it reaches $15 in 2026.
