Members of The Mighty #LIGHTTEAM prepare to depart Tallahassee for StompWars.

Tallahassee's The Mighty #LIGHTTEAM - the award-winning step team of the Omega Lamplighters - was bound for Arlington, Texas and the 20th anniversary celebration of the Stomp Wars National Championship competition on Thursday. Lamplighters Coach Terence McCoy said the local team will be going up against the best step teams from all over the country.

"It's an amazing opportunity for these young men to be on the national platform, getting to showcase their talent to a large crowd of over 5,000 people with Kirk Franklin as one of the headlining celebrity guests. So it's a huge honor and opportunity."

Among the nearly 30 team members is Kerwin Jones.

"I'm pretty excited! It's my last national show as a senior. I never got a ring yet, so I'm hoping to get one this year."

Besides being a showcase for amazingly coordinated and complex step dance routines, Stomp Wars promotes youth leadership, personal excellence and academic achievement. The Omega Lamplighters is a youth leadership organization for young men grades 3 through 12.
