Capital Report: March 20, 2023

Local activists are decrying a bill they say would let one person reverse the work of local communities. The measure requires local governments to conduct business impact estimates for any new ordinances and creates an automatic stay if a lawsuit is filed against any new ordinance. But as Regan McCarthy reports the bill’s sponsor says it protects Floridians against what he calls “unreasonable and arbitrary” rules.

Florida’s school board members would be further term limited to just 8 years in office under a legislative proposal now under consideration. Tom Flanigan has that.

Registering to vote in Florida requires a handwritten signature. Three organizations are suing state elections officials in federal court to get that changed, as Valerie Crowder reports.
