Progressive groups are trying to slow the advancement of several bills that could severely limit discussions of race, sex, gender and history in businesses and public-school classrooms. The measures reflect conservative backlash to the social justice movements, advancements in LGBTQ rights, and increased visibility for transgender people. They’re part of Governor Ron DeSantis’ efforts to push back against the so-called “woke” agenda, but as Lynn Hatter reports, the people most affected by the proposals see them as a regression of hard-fought social progress for short-term political gain.

Florida is looking for more ways to crub its ongoing human trafficking problem. Regan McCarthy reports several bills aimed at protecting victims and cracking down on perpetrators are moving forward in the legislature.
