A Florida House committee has passed a controversial abortion bill, similar to Mississippi’s existing law. Regan McCarthy followed the debate and shares what happened with Tom Flanigan.

Raising the minimum wage. Legalizing medical marijuana. Restoring felons’ right to vote. Those are a few citizen-led policy changes that Florida voters have approved over the last several years. As Valerie Crowder reports, Republican lawmakers are working to prevent voters from putting issues like those on the ballot in a statewide referendum.

Backers of a long-running effort to close public university presidential searches to the public have momentum this year. Lynn Hatter reports the plan—about a decade in the making—is quickly moving through both the House and Senate this year, with little in the way of stopping it: even as many university and open records advocates say its not needed.

An effort that seeks to reduce heat-related illnesses and deaths in Florida is getting bipartisan support. Gina Jordan reports it targets agriculture and other industries with outdoor workers.
