After vetoing a civic literacy education bill last month, Governor Ron DeSantis says he’s now offering bonuses to teachers who get certified under a new state-created civic education course. Regan McCarthy reports the governor is now touting the Florida Civic Seal of Excellence Program.

Fully one-half of Florida’s 67 counties are classified as “rural.” These areas have sparse populations, limited job opportunities and restricted tax bases that make it tough for local governments to provide critical services. But now, as Robbie Gaffney tells us, state funding is on the way to several small communities with the goal of stimulating economic development.

Florida lawmakers are gearing up to re-draw the state’s congressional and state legislative district maps in the fall. As Valerie Crowder reports, voter advocacy groups are working to ensure the redistricting process is fair through a statewide education campaign.

A July 10th rally at the Florida Capitol was mainly to protest the jailing of those charged in connection with the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. But Tom Flanigan reports they were also worried about what they believe is a secret plan to create a national police force that will soon target THEM.
