Florida could become the latest state to revamp its election laws in the wake of the 2020 election. Lynn Hatter reports the legislation follows disproven claims of voter fraud by former President Donald Trump in states other than Florida.
The Florida Legislature is getting closer to passing a measure that would place checks on how social media companies police their platforms. As the session nears its end, both chambers have passed slightly different versions of the bill. Both would require social media platforms to notify users of the policies they’re violating before their content could be censored or their accounts shut down. The bills would also give the state the authority to find those companies thousands of dollars per day if they censor a political candidate. Valerie Crowder reports the G-O-P backed bill has divided members along party lines. And even legal experts don’t totally agree on how well the measure would stand up in court if it becomes law.
