The Florida House has passed its comprehensive tax package, which includes three sales tax holidays. As Valerie Crowder reports, shoppers across the state will have the chance to save money on essential items, along with some recreational products and services.

Florida could ban abortions based on a diagnosis of a disability. The proposal recently cleared the House following emotional testimony. Robbie Gaffney reports its fate is unclear in the Senate.

About a third of Florida’s more than 6-thousand voluntary pre-kindergarten providers are on probation and only about 53% of kids who attended kindergarten in 2019 were deemed ready for it. Republican Representative Erin Grall believes that has to change. But as Lynn Hatter reports, Grall’s plan to strengthen the quality of VPK programs is facing an uphill climb in the legislature. It’s even getting blowback from providers, many of which are private businesses.

Hundreds of activists gathered at a Tampa park Saturday for a Black Lives Matter march, protesting police killings of Black Americans. The crowd was a long way off from the nearly 4,000 who came out for previous marches. And as WMNF’s Daniel Figueroa IV reports, organizers say that’s thanks to the chilling effects of Hb1, Florida’s new anti-riot law.

Senior care advocates say a measure that’s now on its way to Governor Ron DeSantis will help fill a shortage of nursing home workers and help people struggling to find jobs. But Regan McCarthy reports some worry the move could lead to a decrease in the quality of care that the state’s seniors receive.
