In Florida, COVID-19 vaccines become available to everyone 16 and older on Monday [April 5th]. As more people get vaccinated, the discussion to carry a vaccine passport is starting to take root. These are documents that show proof of inoculation. The idea is to help businesses. But as WLRN’s Julian Quintana reports, state government - especially Governor DeSantis - is NOT on board.
Florida state lawmakers have crafted legislation that would change rules surrounding vote by mail and ballot drop boxes. Those haven’t garnered support from elections supervisors across the state, but at least a couple other proposals have attracted supervisors’ approval. One of those changes would include allowing counties to operate ‘Super Voting” sites and making voters’ personal information private. Valerie Crowder spoke with Lake County Elections Supervisor Alan Hays about the proposals moving through the legislature. Hays is also the legislative chair of the Florida Supervisors of Elections.
