Florida hit a new record for conornavirus cases today (Friday). Officials announced nearly 9,000 new confirmed cases in the state. But Regan McCarthy reports many experts say that number is likely on the low side, in part because not all positive test results are listed in the Department of Health’s total each day for coronavirus cases.

Florida hit an all-time record for single day new COVID cases today. And there was more bad news. The state’s budget picture has gone from bad to worse. But as Lynn Hatter tells us, Governor DeSantis insists he’s got the whole thing under control.

As coronavirus cases continue rising in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis is dismissing calls for a statewide order requiring people to wear masks. That’s led several counties to pass their own face mask ordinances to prevent the virus from spreading. But as Robbie Gaffney reports, those moves are not without pushback.

A Leon County circuit judge is mulling whether to allow a potential class-action lawsuit. Nineteen plaintiffs say persistent problems with Florida’s online unemployment system, known as CONNECT, have prevented them from getting the benefits they are eligible for. Gina Jordan reports Judge John Cooper heard nearly four hours of arguments this week via Zoom about the defendants’ request to dismiss the case.

Florida is a battleground state and home to many Cuban-Americans who make up a powerful and historically conservative voting bloc.But with the polarization caused by the Trump administration and the leftward shift of some Democrats, that bloc may be changing its shape.Victoria Dominguez brings us the story.
