A clash involving the Florida and U-S constitutions, along with the public’s interest to hold law enforcers accountable, is unfolding in Tallahassee. Lynn Hatter reports the central issue is Marsy’s Law. That was a constitutional amendment Florida voters approved in 2018 and the question is whether the victim privacy rights it guarantees applies to law enforcement in officer involved shootings. A Leon County judge has dismissed the case. And barring any last minute filings, the move paves the way for the name of the officer who shot Tony MdDade to be released.

Images of burning buildings, store lootings and clashes between police and demonstrators were playing out online and on the nation’s TV screens throughout the week. But in Florida’s Capital City, which certainly saw its share of protests, Robbie Gaffney reports the situation remained peaceful.
