Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Shalimar) is dragging up an old fight in his District 1 congressional bid.
Gaetz co-sponsored a failed 2015 effort to restrict bathroom access based on a person’s sex at birth. The measure didn’t end up making it to the floor in either chamber of the Florida Legislature. But now Gaetz is criticizing his opponent, Sen. Greg Evers (R-Baker) for refusing to bring up the bill in committee. At the time, Evers chaired the Senate Criminal Justice Committee—first stop for the measure in his chamber. Gaetz chides Evers for speaking out against new federal bathroom guidance when he didn’t take up the bathroom bill last year.
