A special Founder’s Collection exhibition will share early Art in Gadsden works of art now found in private collections, and the stories that go back to the earliest days of Gadsden Arts.

Relics and Dreams: Jan Austin-Hicken
On display through September 5, 2026
Visitors are invited to experience “Relics and Dreams: Jan Austin-Hicken,” a vibrant
exhibition of assemblages, original hats, and jewelry. Using handmade papers, treasured
fabrics, and found objects collected over decades, Austin-Hicken transforms familiar
materials into expressive works full of imagination, texture, and personal history.

38th Art in Gadsden Juried Exhibition
July 24 – September 5, 2026
The Art in Gadsden Juried Exhibition is an annual tradition that began more than three
decades ago to promote the work of our region’s artists, and bring fine art to families in
Gadsden County. Artists living within 200 miles of Quincy, Florida, or former Gadsden County
residents, are invited to apply to participate in Art in Gadsden. This exhibition draws visitors
and patrons from across the region each year, showcasing art by the area’s top artists.

We invite you to the exhibition “Friendly Arbitration: Honoré Daumier on Crime, Justice, and Punishment” on view at MoFA until Saturday, December 12. Friendly Arbitration examines Honoré Daumier’s (1808–1879) subversive use of lithography and wood engraving as tools for artistic innovation and social critique in nineteenth-century France. Bringing together original prints from his popular series on lawyers, the legal system, and crime and punishment, the exhibition explores how his satirical caricatures challenged judicial authority, exposed social inequities, and helped reshape the fields of art and journalism.

Through the Fire brings together the work of Mary Ellen Free and selected regional artists who create through processes shaped by flame, heat, and transformation. Featuring ceramics, glass, metal, and other fire-based mediums, the exhibition explores how artists harness elemental forces to transform raw materials into expressive works of art.

United by the alchemy of fire, these works reveal both technical precision and creative vision, celebrating the ingenuity, craftsmanship, and resilience of artists working across disciplines. Through the Fire honors the enduring power of transformation and the vibrant community of makers throughout our region.

Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit about the Special Services Forces at Camp Gordon Johnston. This exhibit will be on display through Saturday, August 29. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission, but donations are gladly accepted.

While Camp Gordon Johnston is best known for training infantry divisions in amphibious assault, the camp's mission changed in late 1943 when it became a U.S. Army Special Services Forces Training Center. Thousands of soldiers came to Carrabelle to train in highly specialized support roles that were essential to Allied success overseas. These units prepared to build, repair, supply, and sustain the ports and transportation networks that kept troops and equipment moving throughout the war.

This special exhibit highlights many of these vital units and their unique missions, including Port Companies, Port Construction and Repair Groups, Harbor Craft Companies, Amphibious Truck Companies, specialized Quartermaster units and other specialized units that trained at Camp Gordon Johnston before serving in Europe and the Pacific. Through photographs, artifacts, historical information, and personal stories, visitors will discover how these service members used specialized skills and equipment to support landing forces and combat operations by repairing damaged ports, operating harbor vessels, clearing obstructions, transporting critical supplies, maintaining equipment, providing logistical support, and protecting troops through their skilled operations.

During World War II, Camp Gordon Johnston trained approximately a quarter of a million soldiers. The skills learned on Carrabelle's beaches and throughout the camp prepared not only combat troops but also the specialized support units whose work made every amphibious operation possible. Their contributions were indispensable to Allied victories across both the European and Pacific theaters.
