Lawmakers have big agenda for 2012

Florida’s 2012 Legislative Session is just days away.  Tom Flanigan reports that this year’s gathering of lawmakers will be unique in several ways.

The first, most obvious difference is the timeframe for the session.  Instead of early March, the starting date for this session is early January.  The reason is the once-every-ten year necessity for legislative redistricting, based on the outcome of the latest U-S Census.

Voter registration closes for presidential primary

Last night Florida election officials closed the book on voter registration for the January 31st Presidential Primary. James Call reports Tuesday was the deadline for citizens to sign up to participate in the election.

Feds offer olive branch on benefits for health insurance

 

The federal government will allow states to decide what health benefits to include in insurance plans offered under the federal healthcare overhaul law. The issue of what benefits to offer has been part of the criticism of the Federal Affordable Care Act. But as Lynn Hatter reports, now that the decision has been left to states, will Florida take up the offer?
