Florida Bar Suspends Maddox, Closes Gaetz Case

The Florida Bar suspended former Leon County Commissioner Scott Maddox and closed its investigation into Congressman Matt Gaetz tweets.

Scott Maddox recently plead guilty to three charges relating to bribery involving city contracts and vendors. As a result, the Florida Bar place him on suspension. It goes into effect in thirty days, unless Maddox notifies the court he is no longer practicing and can start his suspension immediately.

Starting today he can no longer accept new business until or unless he’s reinstated later.

The Florida Bar has also closed its investigation into witness intimidation following Congressman Matt Gaetz’ tweet to Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former attorney. The Bar decided that he did not violate any rules when he sent Cohen a tweet asking if Cohen’s wife and father-in-law knew about his affair. Gaetz later apologized.

The Florida Bar has said they will issue a letter of advice to the congressman.
