The Capital City marked Veterans Day on Saturday with a big parade on Monroe Street. The event was a tangible tribute to all who have served in the nation's military.

Leon County hosted its yearly Operation Thank You breakfast for military veterans at the Sauls Bridges Post 13 American Legion Hall on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11. The event was also a chance for local, state and federal politicians to show their support for those who served.

In preparation for Hurricane Irma, several VA facilities in the North Florida and South Georgia areas will be closed Monday to local veterans.

While the public is normally urged to “thank a Veteran” they meet, the head of Florida’s Department of Veterans' Affairs also wants people to ask a state vet about their earned federal and state health benefits.

Florida is nominating 20 more exceptional service members to the state Veterans’ Hall of Fame. A Madison County man is at the top of a list of nominees.
